UK prime minister’s awkward response to Trump labeling his ‘friend’ as‘nasty’

Donald Trump has traveled from the US to the UK for a short visit, where he met with Prime Minister Keir Starmer to talk about various topics. However, during a joint press meeting, Trump criticized London mayor Sir Sadiq Khan. What he didn’t realize was that Starmer is actually friends with Khan, which led to an awkward moment.

Donald Trump has had discussions with Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. They talked about tariffs, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the situation in Gaza. At the same time, Trump also enjoyed some time playing at one of his golf courses in Scotland.

A few months ago, Starmer visited the White House and gave Donald Trump a handwritten letter from King Charles, along with an official invitation to come to the UK in September. There were some uncomfortable moments during their meeting in the US earlier this year.

Sadly, another awkward situation happened when they met the press in Edinburgh on Monday. During a news conference that lasted an hour, Donald Trump suddenly criticized London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan.

When asked if he would go to London during the State Visit in September, the president replied, “I will, I’m not a fan of your mayor, I think he’s done a terrible job,” and added, “A nasty person, I think.”

Keir Starmer was sitting next to Donald Trump, and it was clear he didn’t agree with the president about Khan. In fact, the UK Prime Minister quickly interrupted, saying, “He’s a friend of mine.”

Donald Trump says London Mayor does “terrible job” in front of ‘friend’ Keir Starmer

Still, Donald Trump wasn’t finished, and he went on to say, “I think he’s done a terrible job but I will definitely visit London, I hope so.”

Sadiq Khan and Donald Trump have had many arguments before, going back and forth at each other. Even though the past is the past, it didn’t take long for Sadiq’s spokesperson to put out a statement, saying, “Sadiq is happy that President Trump wants to come to the greatest city in the world. He’d see how our diversity makes us stronger, not weaker; richer, not poorer.”

“Maybe these are the reasons why a record number of Americans have applied for British citizenship during his presidency,” it finished.

While Trump might have been attacking Khan, he also showed a friendly side, complimenting the UK-US relationship.

“The prime minister, he’s been so supportive of us and so strong and so respected, and I respect him much more today than I did before, because I just met his wife and family. He’s got a perfect wife, and that’s never easy to achieve,” Trump said.

Royal fans furious over Charles & Camilla’s Trump invite

Donald Trump is scheduled to come back to the UK in September for a State Visit where he, along with others, will meet King Charles and Queen Camilla. But when the news was shared, not all fans reacted positively. Many expressed their anger in the comments on the Royal Family’s social media post.

“Is this the first time the royals have hosted a convicted felon?” one user asked.

“Bring on the protests. London does not accept felons,” another person said.

A third user questioned, “Why do you want to host him? HE IS NOT WORTHY OF A VISIT WITH THE KING!” while a fourth added, “Absolutely Disgraceful.”

A fifth commenter mentioned, “It’s embarrassing that in this political landscape you would allow this visit to happen. I’m truly disappointed. I have supported the Royal family through thick and thin.”

On the other hand, some people were really excited about the meeting.

“History in the making. President Trump returns to the world stage with strength, class, and unapologetic leadership that commands respect, not just attendance,” one user wrote.

“I think this event is more important than anyone could ever imagine,” another X user commented, while a third said, “Meeting of two of the most powerful leaders in the world. Great opportunity for big decisions that could benefit the world.”
